Former Leather Tannery Christian Breuninger in Schorndorf
The town of Schorndorf had advertised a architects competition concerning the realignment of the 13,000 square meters area. The first price was rewarded to Gaus & Knödler Architekten along with the Stuttgart-based firm h4a.
On the ground floor and first floor, around 5,300 square meters are planned for retail business. Designed for office use, parts of the District Office can be accommodated on the second floor. The third floor offers space for a nursing home with approximately 65 residents.
On 1,700 square meters, a residential area should be created in the noise-protected northern part of the area. While service providers are housed in the ground floor surfaces, assisted living is available on the upper floors. Lofts can be integrated in the in the north-western part of the existing building.
A design hotel with a gross floor area of approximately 3,000 square meters offers more than 80 rooms and also integrates the historical building “Gasthof Krone”. The hotel is planned as a carbon-neutral building. The parking is done in separate underground garages with 195 or 70 pitches. The area is rounded off by free and open spaces which combine in a special way with the architecture.
