Friedensschule and Fire Station in Schwäbisch Gmünd
Monitoring & Knödler Architekten supported their Munich colleague Christoph Bijok who was responsible for the construction management in reconstruction and extension of the Friedensschule in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Bijok's design was awarded with the “Kleiner Hugo-Häring-Preis”.

The joint project with architect Christoph Bijok went far beyond the reorganizations measures and extensions to the existing school building. The award-winning design by Christoph Bijok further comprised the construction of the fire station in the Gmünd district Rehnenhof-Wetzgau.
The two adjacent building complexes are designed as passive buildings. Wood is an integral part of their architecture. The renewable construction material is used among others in the areas of supporting structure, facade, floor as well as the entire interior.
The renovation work in the interior of the school included the toilet facilities, installation of a lift and a flight of stairs. In addition, a new layout was implemented by optimizing the classroom and the relocation of the teacher’s room. Staffroom, school administration, library, music room and all-day-school are housed in the new building of the extension building.
