Success: Second place at the ZUM competition in Göppingen

Six architectural offices were invited to participate in the planning competition for the redesign of the “Zentrum Untere Markstrasse” (ZUM) in Göppingen. The G&K design took second place in the overall ranking among prestigious competitors.

The “Zentrum Untere Markstrasse” is a central element for the planned upgrading of the quarter at the train station in Göppingen. Fortunately, the development is being accompanied by an intensive public debate. The competition was initiated by Kreissparkasse Göppingen, which owns the majority of the buildings on the ZUM site. We congratulate our Stuttgart colleagues at harris + kurrle architekten bda on their winning contribution!

In its explanatory statement, the competition jury rated the design by Gaus & Knödler Architekten as “self-confident”. The presentation is characterized by an “unorthodox architectural language”. The work represents a completely “independent solution” among the competition entries with its interpretation of the classic Göppingen gabled house. The jury also praised the quality of the designated apartments and their optimal lighting.
