The Company Gaus & Knödler Architekten
On April 1st, 2000, the independent architects Christian Gaus and Stephan Knödler founded their own architectural office in Rechberghausen. Like any history, this one also has a background, which, for Gaus & Knödler Architekten, goes back to the sixties.
In the summer of 1958 Alois Gaus, the father of Christian Gaus and uncle of Stephan Knödler, started his successful career as a architect. For almost half a century, Alois Gaus worked as a well-known architect in the region of Göppingen and beyond. He left his significant architectural traces. His outstanding projects include the settlement at the Bergfeld in Göppingen-Jebenhausen, the school centres in Göppingen-Ursenwang, Rechberghausen and Oberkochen, the community centres in Wangen, Stuttgart-Feuerbach and Eislingen with associated religious buildings.
Thus, the takeover of the office of Alois Gaus with their own company was a big step. Christian Gaus and Stephan Knödler committed to preserve the legacy of Alois Gaus and to appreciate it with their own projects. This also included the claim to make an active contribution to contemporary architecture and the entire building culture with each construction project. Gaus & Knödler Architekten placed particular emphasis on preserving old buildings and historic architecture.
To this end, together with their customers, Gaus & Knödler Architekten seek individual solutions for each project. The company realizes projects for private builders and commercial housing associations, for state and municipal institutions as well as private sector companies at home and abroad. All of the buildings and concepts implemented, developed as a basis for planning or filed as a competition entry during the last 19 years, were and are unique.
The list or works comprises a number of private, commercial and public buildings including the complete development and design of neighbourhoods of entire residential and commercial districts. Gaus & Knödler Architekten are responsible for and supervise construction projects across all HOAI service phases, and also regularly work in proven cooperation with other architectural firms and investors, such as taking over the construction management.
The service portfolio is comprehensive and ranges from new construction projects and renovations in existing buildings to modernization and maintenance and comprehensive location analysis and feasibility studies for commercial and public clients. This includes extensive knowledge in the areas of building maintenance, health and safety coordination (SiGeKo) and expertise in identifying building values and damage to the building.
The company has grown considerably in the last 19 years. Starting with five employees, today a team of about 25 employees of various professions is working on the projects of Gaus & Knödler Architekten. The move to larger premises from Rechberghausen to Göppingen took place in 2006. One year before, the first overseas branch was opened with a think tank in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam.
